THE STORY
Cathedral is set in 1643 at the time of the Civil War in England.
The story follows the calendar of the cathedral year. Joshua, a master stonemason, sculpts a beautiful angel for a tomb in the great cathedral. But the Civil War is raging in England and an ordinance is passed by Parliament declaring that all images in churches have to be destroyed. As the soldiers approach the city, armed for destruction, the dramatic events unfold and both Joshua’s angel and his young granddaughter are threatened with tragedy.
Inspired by the true events that occurred in Norwich Cathedral in 1643, Sue Heaser’s moving and memorable tale combines with glorious music by Peter Creswell to create a thrilling performance for piano and narrator.
