Writing the music for Cathedral - Peter’s comments:
Sue gave me the script of 'Cathedral' about a year and a half ago and inspired by the power of the story and the events in the narrative, I composed music in a wide range of styles, from light hearted dance music to dramatic dissonance. I loved composing soaring melodies for the events of the cathedral year while the terrible moments of the iconoclasm gave me the opportunity to create huge musical themes of threat and horror.
We then spent many hours matching the music with the words and choosing where to play the piano under dialogue and where to perform piano solos. Many pieces are full of imagery; such as ‘Morning Market’, 'Stonemason's Concerto' which mimics the sounds of chipping stone, 'The Falcon Waltz' with lyrical soaring flights and 'Cathedral Bells'.
