Falcons and Cathedrals
Peregrine falcons feature strongly in the story of Cathedral and Peter Creswell's music includes a glorious waltz that epitomizes the soaring flight of this wonderful bird.
The peregrine falcon and its relatives are found all over the world. They are renowned as the fastest animal in existence and commonly reach speeds of 200mph as they swoop and dive for their prey.
Falcons mate for life and often reach 18 years old in the wild. They nest on rocky cliffs and sometimes on ledges on high buildings. After becoming scarce in the 1960s, they have made a successful comeback and the great medieval cathedrals of Britain have become favourite nesting sites in recent years. Norwich cathedral has had a family of falcons in residence since 2011 and they have bred successfully every year since then.
